Owen is a transformation, turnaround and change expert who has held senior strategy, commercial and operational performance roles at Qantas Airways, Air New Zealand, Brambles Industries and Origin Energy.
At Qantas and Air New Zealand, he led the Profit Enhancement Team, which ran all transformational change and cost optimisation activities across the airlines. This involved establishing a disciplined framework to identify savings, lock targets into forecasts, budgets and strategic plans and to manage successful implementation at a divisional level. Projects included outsourcing, offshoring, competitive tendering, realising procurement opportunities as well as other value creation programmes. He previously led the Origin’s Enterprise Portfolio Management & Transformation Office. Working for the Executive Team he executed the “Fit for the Future” Transformation, which succeeded in optimising the enterprise support functions across Finance & Commercial, Supply Chain, IT, Human Resources, Project Management, HSE and Risk.
Owen has independently consulted in a number of CFO and Commercial roles and as Program Director, Virgin Australia Airlines also led the introduction of inflight connectivity into the B737, B777 and A330 fleet. Owen’s most recent assignment was as the Chairman of the Crisis Management Committee at Sydney Airport, leading and project managing the organisations response to COVID19.
Owen has a first class honours degree in Economics, is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, England & Wales and a keen distance runner.
